Thanksgiving Day throughout the USA celebrates the harvest with a traditional family feast. In New York City the holiday is further celebrated with this spectacular and colourful parade through the streets of Manhattan - in one of the Big Apple's most eagerly anticipated events. Stars and celebrities appear among the many floats, but are dwarfed by 15 or more 'falloons' (a cross between a float and a balloon) representing familiar cartoon characters. There are more than 50 balloons in all, which are inflated on the evening before the Parade as part of the warm-up. Over 30 clown groups, 10 marching bands and dozens of school bands also form a part of the spectacular. Good vantage points include Columbus Circle and Times Square, but get there early for a place near the front of the big crowds.

The Film Society is best known for two world-class international festivals – the New York Film Festival (the most famous and prestigious in the country), and New Directors/New Films (celebrating new cinematic artists). It runs a state-of-the-art year-round cinema, the Walter Reade Theater (capacity: 268), and publishes the country’s most respected cinematic journal, Film Comment. Each year the organization presents its annual Gala Tribute honoring legendary stars and industry leaders of our generation at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. Greenwich Village Halloween

The parade is an annual event that stretches over a mile in Greenwich Village, and according to the New York Times, it is “the best entertainment the people of this City ever give the people of this City. » With fifty thousand costumed participants, artists, dancers, circus performers and musical acts, it is not a surprise that it has become one of the largest events in the country. The key to the competition is creativity, and the wilder the costume, the better!

The parade started off in 1973 with mask maker and puppeteer Ralph Lee who staged a puppet show for the children of his friends, family and neighbours in the Village. After the second year, the «Theater for the new city» stepped forward to present the show on a larger scale, and by the eighth year, the audience had grown to 100 000 !

The Halloween Parade begins on Sixth Avenue at Spring Street, and continues north along Sixth Avenue to 23rd Street.

If it just takes a good finance pun to draw in Wall Street diners, then the Federal Cafe—located in the Hotel Reserve—should have no problem filling seats. If wordplay doesn't do the trick, perhaps the $9.99 daily lunch special (11 a.m. to 3pm, full menu) might do the trick in this bear market. Federal's lunch menu runs the gamut from burgers to spring rolls to Greek salad, but the diner menu sticks closer to an Italian American theme. Owner Thomas Sima and his dad, the guys behind the Prime Cafe in the 26th Street Holiday Inn, have put together a greatest hits menu featuring veal parmigiana, chicken Milanese and prime aged steaks, all served in an understated dining room that would make any Midwestern business traveler feel at ease.

One of the most popular attractions on our itinerary is the Empire State Building. Built in 1931, the building has 102 floors and stands 1,250 feet tall. It is currently the tallest tower in New York City and the 2nd tallest building in the United States. A grandiose lobby galvanized with marble, granite, nickel and limestone is just the start of this amazing building.

Empire State Building Facts

With 22 miles of telephone wire and enough elevator cable to stretch from Manhattan to Baltimore, one is marveled by the building’s size, height, and history. The history of the building is a wonder in itself. During the great depression, it was decided to build the Empire State Building in an attempt to create jobs and cause a catalyst for the American economy. It turns out they needed 7 million man hours for construction to complete the project. The most amazing fact is the time in which it took to complete Gotham City’s new tallest tower. In just 18 fast-tracked months, the Empire State building was completed. By comparison, the new World Trade Center/Freedom Tower with 110 floors will take 5 years to complete. Construction on The Empire State Building was around the clock 24 hours a day. They opted to fast-track the building’s construction because they really wanted to prove to the world that the American workforce and spirit was strong and citizens should not give up hope on America.

After it was completed, critics argued that the building was not structurally sound enough to occupy. Thus, when it was completed in 1931 the occupancy rate was a meager 20%.

Went out for steak last night to celebrate my dad’s birthday, and I guess I’ve still got beef on the brain. If only today’s feature would come to Texas (don’t really care where. I’d drive it.)

If you take your steaks seriously at all, you’ve probably heard of Peter Luger Steak House, a Brooklyn landmark voted by the Zagat Survey as the #1 steakhouse in New York City for an incredible 24 years running. Opened in 1887, the place is almost whimsically old-fashioned, boasting a Zen-simple menu, bizarre payment options, uber-manly décor and, oh yeah, some righteous steaks.

Before we get to some of the more unusual features of Peter Luger, let’s start with what everyone can agree they get just right: the steaks. Most high-end steakhouses tout USDA Prime beef, but according to Peter Luger’s buyer, Jody Storch, that’s really just the beginning. Meat is purchased daily after Jody’s discerning examination. Not even most Prime beef meets her exacting standards. You could say she only buys the prime of the Prime. (See her in action)

The highest quality beef on-hand, Peter Luger dry ages every steak in-house. Dry aging allows moisture to evaporate from the meat cuts slowly, intensifying the rich beef flavor without over-dehydrating the steaks. After several days (I’ve seen places take it to 48, though I’m not sure about Peter Luger), the meat is finally ready and sent upstairs to the restaurant.

Don’t expect a full page of different cuts to choose from. Peter Luger specializes in the Porterhouse steak, offered by number of diners rather than weight. You can order a single for yourself, or make it monster serving up to four people, served to the table on a 400-degree plate and already cut up for your convenience.

Appetizer offerings are just as straight-forward: a plate of sliced tomatoes with sauce, tomatoes and onion with sauce, a nice Caesar salad, or the heart-threateningly delicious extra thick bacon by the slice. There’s nothing fancy about any of it, but when you use top-quality ingredients and prepare them just right, there’s really no need to be.

Oh, for dessert, it’s got to be the pecan pie. They have other options, but this is the one you want.

Another standout feature of Peter Luger Steak House is that they do not accept credit cards. Either you pay cash or you order a Peter Luger Card, essentially an in-house dining card. They also have a store, selling everything from memorabilia to their signature Peter Luger Sauce to the steaks themselves, butcher shop-style. You can even have uncooked steaks mailed to you.

Though it seems old-fashioned at times (and hey, maybe that’s part of the charm), what really counts is the meat, and these steaks just can’t be beat. Beef-lovers the world over owe themselves a visit to Peter Luger Steak House in Brooklyn. Learn more about this restaurant here.

I’ve got a couple options I want to mention in New York City today, both of them in Manhattan but still pretty close to the steakhouse:

•Hotel Reserve - an awesome boutique Manhattan hotel located right across from the Federal Reserve Bank near Wall Street. It’s an awesome location for corporate travelers and really anyone who wants to experience the Big Apple.

•Hilton Garden Inn New York / Tribeca - Thanks to the Tribeca film festival, this area of south Manhattan is getting a lot more attention of late, and this fresh, welcoming Hilton offers a nice stay at a good price.

For three Saturday mornings this summer, New York City pedestrians will take over seven miles of Park Avenue (and connecting streets) from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park. During Summer Streets weekends, the streets will be closed to vehicle traffic and opened up to New Yorkers for fun activities and live entertainment.

Take advantage of free bike and skate rentals, free fitness classes, free tennis lessons, and more. Organized by the New York City Department of Transportation, the goal of Summer Streets is to get New Yorkers out for some healthy recreation and encourage the use of sustainable forms of transportation (like your two strong feet and that bike taking up half of your NYC apartment). In 2008, thousands of New Yorkers hit the road for Summer Streets. Come out and join the fun in 2009.

Jamaica AirTrain station

M60 bus from Manhattan and Astoria
With the M60 bus, you can travel to all terminals at LaGuardia from the West Side, the East Side or Astoria (Queens). The M60 runs between 106 St and Broadway in Manhattan and LaGuardia Airport from approximately 5 am to 1 am, seven days a week. The M60 serves all airport terminals. Connections can be made with all north-south Manhattan subway lines or with the N and W trains at the Astoria Blvd station.
If you pay your fare with MetroCard, you can transfer free between the subway and the M60 bus. The M60 also makes convenient connections with MTA Metro-North Railroad at the 125 St station. Travel time between Broadway and 116 St and the Delta Terminal is approximately 40 minutes.

Q48 from Flushing, Queens
The Q48 provides local bus service between Flushing and all terminals at LaGuardia Airport. It loops through LaGuardia Airport and makes a stop at Mets-Willets Point. Free transfers between the Q48 any bus or the subway are available if you pay your fare with MetroCard. The Q48 operates from 4:30 AM to 1:00 AM. Travel time from the Main St 7 station to LaGuardia Airport is approximately 30 minutes.

Newark Liberty International Airport (airport code EWR) is one of New York City’s three area airports, and offers a quieter alternative to JFK or LaGuardia airports for the Midtown Manhattan air traveler. Located at 10 Toler Place in Newark, New Jersey, Newark Airport is about 16 miles southwest of Manhattan. Newark Airport is the smallest of the three New York-area airports. There are several travel options for reaching Newark Airport from Midtown Manhattan, and we’ll explore them for you here.
Driving To Newark Airport
If you wish to drive out to Newark Airport from Midtown Manhattan in New York City, you’ll take the Lincoln Tunnel to the southbound NJ Turnpike. Follow the NJ Turnpike to exit 14C, and take I-78 to Route 1/9. When you reach exit 57 (Newark Airport Main Terminals), take the ramp leading to Lot P6-Economy (long-term) Parking. Once you’ve parked in lot P6, there’s a free airport shuttle bus to the terminals. The bus ride takes 20 minutes, so make sure you allot time for this extra step. Buses run every 15 minutes from 5AM to midnight, and every 20 minutes from midnight to 5AM. If you get really stuck for time, you can park in Newark Airport’s short-term parking, where the daily parking rate is much higher, but the parking lot is just steps away from the terminal.

Your drive to Newark Airport, including the shuttle bus, depending on traffic and weather conditions, can take from 50-65 minutes. Expect daytime traffic entering the Lincoln Tunnel, at the approach to the NJ Turnpike, and on Route 1/9. There are tolls for the Lincoln Tunnel and the NJ Turnpike.

Taxi, Van, or Express Bus to Newark Airport
New York City yellow cabs can get you to Newark Airport in comfort, but the fares range from $45-$60 depending on your starting point, plus tolls and tip. Taxis do offer 24-hour, on-demand service, but they can be hard to find during rush hours or bad weather. Taxis can generally make the trip to Newark Airport in about 50 minutes, traffic and weather permitting, although New York City’s yellow cabs are very often clueless about finding their way around heavy traffic in New Jersey (Did someone say satellite navigator?) and some will refuse to go to Newark Airport entirely because they don’t think they’ll be able to get a fare back to Manhattan.

The Newark Liberty Airport Express bus service is less expensive. From a choice of Midtown departure points (Penn Station, Port Authority Bus Terminal, or Grand Central), the bus makes trips to Newark Airport every 30 minutes starting around 5AM and ending around 1:30AM. The fare to Newark Airport by bus is $13. Travel time is usually between 40 and 50 minutes (my trip on a stormy Monday afternoon took 54 minutes from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City). Traffic conditions will affect your trip time.

Super Shuttle’s shared-ride van service also goes to Newark Airport. This is a 24-hour, on-demand service, which will pick you up anywhere in Manhattan. With door-too-door service, it’s a low-cost, attractive option for those with extra luggage, or large groups. Because it’s a “shared ride” service, however, the van may make stops to pick up other passengers before heading out to Newark Airport. The fare is $19, and trip time can range from 60-70 minutes, depending on traffic, weather, and the number of extra stops the van makes after picking you up.

Amtrak to Newark Airport – Quickest Method
The quickest way to reach Newark Airport is to ride an Amtrak train from New York’s Penn Station directly to the Newark Airport Train Station. Amtrak trains stopping at Newark Airport will show “EWR” on the departure board at Penn Station. The Amtrak ride to Newark Airport takes just 22 minutes, and a 5-minute ride on the Newark Airport Airtrain to your terminal. Your Amtrak ticket also gets you on the Newark Airport Airtrain, and fares start at $28. Amtrak trains run to Newark Airport about every half hour during the day, and hourly until around 1AM. There are security checks for Amtrak passengers on the New York end, so allow extra time (about 10 minutes) for that.

PATH / NJ Transit / Airtrain to Newark Airport – Cheapest Method
The least expensive way to reach Newark Airport is via the PATH subway/NJ Transit/Airtrain method. It’s a tricky route, but if cost is a factor, it can be done in about 90 minutes. From the 33 St./6 Ave. PATH station, you ride a PATH train to Journal Square, change there (across the platform) to a Newark train. From Newark Penn Station, take a NJ Transit train to the Newark Airport Train Station, and finally, transfer to a Newark Airport Airtrain to your terminal. Total cost of this method is $9.

PATH trains run every 15 minutes during the day on weekdays, every 30 minutes at night. On weekends, PATH trains run every 30 minutes, 24 hours a day. While PATH and the Newark Airport Airtrain run 24 hours a day, NJ Transit has no service to Newark Airport between 2 and 5AM. Remember that the NJ Transit ticket you purchase in Newark also covers your Airtrain fare, so hold on to it when you leave the NJ Transit train. Only NJ Transit trains showing “EWR” on the departure board will stop at Newark Airport.

Another Rail Option To Newark Airport
Newark Airport is also accessible using the NJ Transit/Airtrain method. From New York’s Penn Station, NJ Transit trains follow the same route as Amtrak trains to Newark Airport. They take slightly longer than Amtrak trains (30 minutes) to make the trip, but they are cheaper. NJ Transit offers a combined NJ Transit/Airtrain ticket for $12.50. All NJ Transit trains that show “EWR” on the departure boards will stop at Newark Airport Train Station. There, you’ll transfer to the Newark Airport Airtrain to reach your terminal. NJ Transit trains to Newark Airport run hourly from 5 to 6AM and midnight to 2AM. During the day and evening, service runs every half hour. There is no NJ Transit service from New York to Newark Airport between 2 and 5AM.

Limo To Newark Airport – Most Luxurious and Most Expensive Method
If riding in style is to your taste, you might consider one of the various limo services to get to Newark Airport. They offer door-to-door service, are available 24 hours a day, and are private and comfortable. They’re costly – Tel Aviv Car & Limo fares start at $60 – but limos do provide personalized service the other modes can’t offer. Traffic and weather will extend the limos’ usual 45-50 minute travel time to Newark Airport. Some limo services also add tolls and a gratuity to the fare, but others include it in the fare.

Most Reliable Method to Newark Airport
The most reliable methods to reach Newark Airport are the Amtrak/Airtrain or NJ Transit/Airtrain options. They are fast, unaffected by traffic or weather, and transfers between rail and the Airtrain monorail at Newark Airport are made easy by the Port Authority. The only drawback to the rail options is that there’s no service between 2and 5AM on either Amtrak or NJ Transit, so red-eye travelers will have to choose a different method to reach Newark Airport.

Conclusion – Our Top Recommendations to Newark Liberty Airport

From Midtown Manhattan in New York City, we recommend either of the two rail options for travel to Newark Airport. Amtrak and NJ Transit get high marks for speed and convenience and the cost is reasonable. Some Amtrak trains even have food-service cars, so you can get a snack on your way to the airport.

If door-to-door service appeals to you, we recommend limo service. They cost a little more, but are direct, personalized, and available 24 hours a day. Plus, there’s that added prestige of alighting from a limo at your terminal, while the driver handles your luggage. Here’s wishing you a great flight!

This summer, Today and Good Morning America are battling for your attention by sponsoring free summer concert series featuring big-name artists in New York City.
The good news: Free concerts featuring a wide range of artists including Black Eyed Peas, Fall Out Boy, Katy Perry, The Jonas Brothers, Green Day, and many more.

The bad news: You have to get up really early. Shows start at 7:00 A.M.

The 2009 Today Show Summer Concert Series will take place Friday mornings (and on some special additional dates as indicated in the schedule below) on the plaza at Rockefeller Center (between 49th and 50th St. near 5th Ave.). The Friday shows start at 7:00 A.M., but plan to arrive no later than 6:00 A.M. if you want a decent view.

Viewing is on a first-come, first-served basis but you can request a fan pass and you might just get selected for a front-row view for an upcoming concert.

A performing arts program of BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn, Celebrate Brooklyn! is one of New York City's longest running, free, outdoor performing arts festivals. Launched in 1979, as a catalyst for a Brooklyn performing arts scene and to bring people back into Prospect Park after years of neglect, Celebrate Brooklyn has been an anchor in the park's revitalization and has become one of the city's foremost summer cultural attractions. Over the course of its history Celebrate Brooklyn has presented over 1,700 artists and ensembles reflective of the borough's diversity, ranging from internationally acclaimed performers to emerging, cutting-edge artists. All Celebrate Brooklyn performances are free. The festival attracts upwards of 250,000 attendees from across New York City to the Prospect Park Bandshell each summer.

The first New York Puerto Rican Day Parade was held in "El Barrio" in Manhattan. Amongst its founders were; José "Chuito" Caballero, Peter Ortiz, Luisa Quintero, Victor López, Luis Amando Feliciano, Vicente Hernández, Angel M. Arroyo, Atanacio Rivera Feliciano, y Amalio Maisanave Ríos. Its first President was Victor López and it was coordinated by José Caballero. The Grand Marshall was Oscar González Suarez, Esq. Prominent personalites from Puerto Rico headed by then Governor Don Luis Muñoz Marin, attended the initial parade. Several Mayors from Puerto Rico, led by the Mayor of the Municipality of Corozal, Hon. Leo Cabranes also participated.
In 1995 we felt that it was time to expand this event to the national scene, reminding Puerto Ricans throughout the country of their heritage and fostering the positive image of our people. Get ready for one of New York's most colorful and festive parades — as New Yoricans celebrate the 52nd annual Puerto Rican Day Parade on June 14, 2009.
If last year was any indication, expect to see more than 80,000 people marching, and close to 3 million revelers lining the parade route for a major Puerto Rican love-fest. Although celebrations of Puerto Rican heritage take place in cities across the U.S, New York's own Puerto Rican Day Parade is, in fact, the city's largest parade and second biggest public celebration after the Labor Day West Indian American Day Carnival in Brooklyn. The first New York Puerto Rican Day Parade was held in Spanish Harlem in Manhattan in 1958, and from its humble beginnings grew to reflect not only a growing number of New York-born residents of Puerto Rican descent, but an increased pride in Puerto Rican roots, culture, and tradition.
The parade marches along Fifth Avenue from 44th Street to 86th Street and includes delegates from various towns of Puerto Rico and U.S. states across the country.
In a testament to its popularity, the spectacle annually receives the highest local Nielsen ratings for stations in the New York area when it is televised for three hours on local channel FOX 5 with afternoon coverage on WOR Channel 9.

The Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum is a museum ship in New York City located at North River Pier 86 at 46th Street on the West Side of Manhattan. The museum showcases the World War II aircraft carrier USS Intrepid, the submarine USS Growler, and a Lockheed A-12 supersonic reconnaissance plane (often mistaken for the later SR-71 Blackbird).

It is located in a tourist area, next to the New York Passenger Ship Terminal, the Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises pier, and near the New York consulate of the People's Republic of China and a heliport.

The museum serves as a hub for the annual Fleet Week events. Visiting warships dock at the cruise ship terminals to the north, and events are held on the museum grounds and the deck of the Intrepid.

After being closed for a lengthy renovation, the museum reopened to the public on November 8, 2008 with William White as its president.

Earlier today we stood with Mayor Bloomberg, Speaker Quinn, Borough President Stringer, Congressman Nadler, and other leaders and supporters and cut the ribbon on the High Line, officially opening the first section to the public. This historic day is the culmination of ten years of advocacy, planning and construction, and we're so grateful to everyone who has helped make this opening possible.

We expect many visitors from the neighborhood, from across New York City, and from around the world to come get a first glimpse in our opening season. We hope you will visit us in the coming days and weeks, and see for yourself the beautiful, one-of-a-kind new park you have helped us build. When you come up for the first time, remember that the landscape is still young, and it will continue to evolve through its first season and beyond. Shakespeare in the Boroughs serves residents of Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island and the Bronx by providing a limited number of FREE tickets to Shakespeare in the Park on selected days.

Ticket vouchers to Shakespeare in the Park are free and distributed on a first-come first-served basis beginning at 1pm on the day of the performance. Each voucher is good for one ticket, and there is a maximum of two vouchers per person. Distribution continues until all tickets are given out, or 3pm, whichever is first. Vouchers must then be redeemed for tickets at the Delacorte Theater Box Office between 4 and 7:30p.m. Please see below for date and location information.

The lawn of Battery Park is an incredible outdoor location for River To River’s blockbuster July 4th concert. There is ample space to stand or stretch out on the grass; you’re also welcome to bring a blanket or beach chair.

Located in the heart of Battery Park City, the World Financial Center (WFC) is a sleek, modern complex housing office towers, shops, restaurants and myriad public areas that are used as performance and exhibition spaces. The WFC’s centerpiece is the spectacular, glass-vaulted Winter Garden, a soaring atrium adorned with 40-foot palm trees. The Winter Garden opens directly onto the Plaza, a picturesque open space with views of the Statue of Liberty, Hudson River, and a waterfront promenade that circles the North Cove Harbor. Rounding off the WFC’s main arts spaces is the Courtyard Gallery. River To River Festival events occur both inside the Winter Garden as well as outside on the Plaza. All events are free and limited seating is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

”Taking a Chance on America: Bela Lugosi’s Ellis Island Story”
Due to popular demand, “Taking a Chance on America: Bela Lugosi’s Ellis Island Story” will reopen at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum’s intimate Living Theater for a limited run beginning April 25 through September 5. The play, written by playwright and screenwriter Aurorae Khoo, portrays the immigrant experience of legendary movie actor Bela Lugosi—best known for his portrayal of Count Dracula—and features a reenactment of the Ellis Island inspection process. The show also includes contemporary immigrant characters.

Produced and funded by The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc., this 30-minute show will be presented seven times daily. Times are 10:45; 11:30; 12:15; 1:00; 2:30; 3:15; and 4:00. Admission is $6.00. Reservations are accepted for groups of 10 or more. Since the theater seats 56 people, some groups may have to schedule multiple shows. (Please note that the National Park Service, which administers Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, requires one chaperone for every ten students.) Individuals without reservations are encouraged to purchase their tickets upon entering the museum.

It is recommended that show-goers purchase Reserve Tickets for the ferry, which allow ticket holders priority entry to security check-in and saves wait time. Flex Tickets are also available. 2. Chinese New Year Parade- Held annually every February in Chinatown. This street festival and parade features elaborate costumes, lion dances, floats, and cultural events.

3. Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

EASTER IN NYC

The Easter Parade is a New York phenomenon that dates back to the middle of the 1800s. The social elite would attend services at one of the fashionable 5th Avenue churches, such as St. Patrick's Cathedral, and parade down the Avenue afterwards to give onlookers - and each other - a chance to view their new Easter hats and dresses.

The less well to do would come to gawk at the carriage set and see what the latest trends were. Many handy seamstresses found inspiration for their middle class client's wardrobes at the parade. It was a combination of religious services, reality TV and haute couture in the days before mass media, when only the wealthiest New Yorkers could attend the hottest Paris fashion shows and keep up with the latest fashion trends.

While there is still an element of fashion involved in the modern spectacle, the current version tends to be more fantastic. Live birds nest in bonnets of real flowers and pets are dressed in the latest 5th Avenue doggy wear.

The flamboyant headgear and costumes are paraded down 5th Avenue to the delight of onlookers. You don't need a special outfit to join in the fun. Anyone can step out and stroll down the Avenue.

New York weather in early Spring is anything but reliable. "Record April Snowfall, 10 Inches, and 60-Mile Gale Usher in New York's Easter," was a headline in the New York Times on April 4, 1915. While this is unusual, a rainy March or April day can make for soggy bonnet watching.

If good years, the weather forecast will call for a wonderful sunny day with temperatures around 60 degrees. If that's the case, you can count on a huge crowd enjoying the Easter Parade on 5th Avenue in New York City!

The parade takes place on Fifth Avenue from 49th to 57th Streets. The action starts at 10AM and goes on for hours. Join the spectators in the viewing stands or along the streets.

New York's Central Park features 843 acres filled with classic architecture, gorgeous statuary and up to date sports, educational and performance facilities. Besides all of this there is the world famous Central Park Zoo and Wildlife Center and the Children's Zoo. The park also boasts two full service restaurants (including the world famous Tavern on the Green and the scenic Boathouse Restaurant on the Lake). And all of this doesn't even come close to the natural splendor of the landscape.
Central Park has a wide variety of carefully crafted topograhical aspects all created by the genius of Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted. From the beautiful centerpiece of the Park, Bethesda Terrace to the more rustic charm of the North Woods Central Park changes from festive fountains to pastoral retreat all in the space of a few city blocks.

There is also a fully functional National Weather Station located at picturesque Belvedere Castle, an outdoor performance venue at the Delacorte Theatre, two skating rinks, a public swimming pool, and several different information centers located around the park that offer not only information about the park, but also host a variety of educational programs for adults and children alike. Then there is the rich historic content of Central Park. On the East Side there is The Obelisk, or Cleopatra's Needle, the oldest public monument in North America. At the northern end of the Park is the Blockhouse, a fort from the War of 1812 that still stands. On the Upper East Side is McGown's Pass, which the Continental Army passed through in 1783 when they re-took the city from the British Army. And then there is the amazing musical legacy of the Park, which has hosted historic performance's by some of the world's greatest artist, including Paul Simon, Elton John, Dave Matthews and Bruce Springsteen. And, of course, Pope John Paul the II, who celebrated mass on the Great Lawn in 1995. So, make sure to allow plenty of time for your visit because Central Park is a veritable world unto itself, rich with scenic vistas and hidden gems, all at the center of the world's most exciting city!

Learn about the central banking functions of the Federal Reserve System through our interactive, multimedia exhibit called FedWorks. Designed as an educational tool, FedWorks allows visitors to participate in monetary policy simulations and to learn about the Fed's role in the economy.

Drachmas, Doubloons and Dollars: The History of Money
This exhibit, co-sponsored by the American Numismatic Society, marks the first time that the Society's most valuable coins and medals have been brought together for the public to view. On display at the Fed are more than 800 examples from the Society's noted collection of one million forms of currency used worldwide and spanning three millennia of history.

By Car: Take the Grand Central Parkway to exit 20, Francis Lewis Boulevard, northbound. Take Francis Lewis Boulevard north and make a left at the first light onto Union Turnpike. Make your second left into the parking lot at 196th Place.

By Bus: Take the Q44 bus to Union Turnpike.

By Subway: -Take the E or F train to Union Turnpike and then the eastbound Q46 bus to 195th street. -Take the Long Island Railroad to Jamaica Station and then take the Q44 bus to Union Turnpike (towards Flushing). Transfer to Main Street and Union Turnpike to the Q46 bus eastbound.

Rockefeller, Jr. first opened the 70th floor Observation Deck atop 30 Rockefeller Plaza more than 70 years ago, to give something back to New Yorkers and their guests from around the world a place to appreciate and celebrate the city.The Observation Deck's original design was inspired by the decks of the great ocean liners of the era, complete with deck chairs, gooseneck fixtures and vents inspired by a ship's stacks. A trip to the Observation Deck was like setting sail in the heart of the world's most dynamic city.Closed for over twenty years, this breathtaking vantage point was reopened in 2006 and has been re-introduced to the people of New York.The space has been reimagined by by the architect Michael Gabellini and now offers a streamlined, uncluttered experience with panels of fully transparent, non-reflective safety glass allowing completely unobstructed, open-air views of the entire city. Gabellini blended modern materials with the deck's original elements like the custom "shot-sawn" limestone and cast-aluminum fleurs-de-lis that are signatures of the original design. The result is Art Deco grace combined with state-of-the-art technology and simplicity.
